O my soul
What has got you so downcast

Brought you low?
Some affliction from the past?
Hope in God!
His compassions never fail.

Verse 2
O my soul
Trouble knows you far too well,
Taken hold.
You're discouraged I can tell
Hope in God!
He is present, O so near

Pre-Chorus
Let His joy supply your tears
Let His peace remove your fears

Chorus

Soul, put your hope in God
Our refuge and our strength

He hears our pray'rs
He always cares
So put your hope in God
So put your hope in God

Verse 3

O my soul
Is your future filled with dread?
Doubts control?

Let His love prevail instead
Hope in God!
His salvation will appear

Pre-Chorus

Chorus

Bridge

He’s our Portion, God is good
O soul just seek Him out
He frees us from all …our enemies
Soul, put your hope in God

Because of the Lord
You are not consumed,
His love   will never fail.
Remember His love
Make it your own
Soul, put your hope in God

I think some people will say that in the bridge the "s" from "enemies", and the "s" from "Soul" is too hard to distinguish when singing. A solution if so would be, "He frees us all from the Enemy," if that doesn't change your meaning too much. But I really like this soulful, passionate song.

Agree with Shannon on the wording. Not easy to sing. Another thought is to tweak the POV in the bridge:
God's my portion, He is good
So I will seek Him out...
etc....

He’s our Portion, God is good
O soul just seek Him out
He frees us from all …our enemies
Soul, put your hope in God

Because of the Lord
You are not consumed,
His love   will never fail.
Remember His love
Make it your own
Soul, put your hope in God

Chorus
I think this is one of your best. There are a few things that stuck out for me - I marked them in the song.

hey there! I remember you from before. you seem hardly a novice now

I really like the lyric and the tie to the Bible
I would challenge you to get away from tears/fears rhyme and the two lines - he hears our prayers he always cares. true true all but a bit cliché and you can do better.

otherwise cool cool and even with these cool.
